With design trends changing from year to year, the nursery is no exception, with some features, themes, and color schemes proving to be more popular than others and some climbing in popularity while others fall out of fashion.

Preparing to welcome a new baby is an exciting time with plenty of opportunities to put your own style stamp on the proceedings.

In fact, the nursery has become a particularly important style moment for the new parents as they ready the room for the new addition to their family. It's not just a baby breathing monitor that are on the top of expecting parents priorities, decorating a baby's room is usually one of the top of parents to-do lists.

With design trends changing from year to year, the nursery is no exception, with some features, themes, and color schemes proving to be more popular than others and some climbing in popularity while others fall out of fashion.

So which trends have been the most popular of 2021 and which are continuing to grow in popularity?

The most popular nursery colors of 2021

Choosing the color of your nursery is the first step as it provides the base for your whole theme, but which colors are proving to be the most popular? The top three color trends show that neutral palettes are very much in, with white topping the list with a trending score of over 19 million.

White is a popular wall color, creating a neutral base from which you can add brighter pops of color. Keeping the walls neutral also means that you can update the room decor as your little one grows without having to give the whole room a new lick of paint.

The nursery colors gaining in popularity

When it comes to which colors are becoming more popular, the brighter colors seem to be taking over the neutral shades. With the color green seeing the biggest increase in popularity, we predict that 2022 will see a return of the bright color schemes while neutral and monochromatic themes drop in popularity.

Green is so often associated with nature that it seems like a natural color to be gaining in popularity. Whether you want to create a forest scene or a wild jungle for your nursery decor, green is the ideal base color.

The most popular nursery themes of 2021

Looking at wider themes for nurseries, we can see that gender-neutral nurseries are topping the list with a trending score of more than 14.7 million. Many parents are rejecting the traditional color schemes and themes in favor of themes that work whatever the gender of their baby.

The traditional color schemes of pink and blue are quickly becoming a thing of the past, with many parents choosing to raise their children free of the typical gender stereotypes, starting from the decor of their little ones’ room.

The nursery themes gaining in popularity

Looking at just those themes which are rising in popularity, we can see that the Boho theme is making a comeback with searches having increased by 67.51% over the past 12 months when compared to the previous 12 month period.

Boho is short for bohemian and represents a style that can be interpreted in a number of ways. Typically, this style can include the hippy style, making use of natural materials, pastel colors and floral prints, to name but a few elements.

The most popular Disney and Pixar themes of 2021

Our favorite Disney and Pixar movies make for great nursery themes, but which ones top the list? The classic Beauty and the Beast takes the top spot with a trending score of 11.4 million, with many of the other fan favorites finding their way into the top 10.

Many of us grew up watching Disney and Pixar movies, getting lost in the magic of the stories, so it’s no surprise that as adults, we want to incorporate these stories into the decor of our childrens’ rooms. It’s important to remember, however, that your chosen theme shouldn’t include stuffed animals or any other items sitting in the crib with your little one while they sleep as this can be dangerous.
